Do you see those aluminium drinking bottles all over the place too? I'll fess up to being mildly curious though I've been using my trusty Nalgene for well over five years.
I bogarted my roommate's (he hasn't used it), filled with agua, chilled, and have the results.
--Your hand gets cold. Metal is conducting, not insulating. Point for Nalgene.
--You can't see how much liquid you have. Point for Nalgene.
--You can't easily scrub the complete inside. I don't know about you, but I just feel better if I can coat entire surfaces with bubbles. Point for Nalgene.
That settles it. Maybe I'll die sooner from toxins, but I've accepted that fact.

Charlie and I picked up some handy dandy Nalgene BPA free bottles at our local sports equipment store. No toxins for me!
I'm a Sigg supporter. I think all plastics are evil, even BPA-free. That's based on instincts, not facts, but I stand by it nonetheless.
I do dislike not being able to scrub inside, but the big mouth on Nalgene bottles spill all over me, so it's worth it!
i go for the nalgene! i got some smaller ones from santa that fit better in my lunch bag for school, plus they have a lovely interlocking AU so all my bama kids get riled up!
parker - they make an insert to put in your nalgene bottle at the top so you don't spill everywhere!
